Around The World in Eight Days July 25, 2008

As we reach the end of Barack Obama’s seven countries in eight days I have been wondering what the world thinks of him. Outside looking in, I believe the trip was a success.

If nothing else, he has been showing through his actions that there is still room in our world for dialogue. I can’t for the life of me understand why this “war” we’re in has to be a ‘win or lose’ proposition. Especially when we were the ones that performed an act of war by invading Iraq. How much more do we have to lose before we win? How many more young men and women have to lose their lives or come back with major wounds and major emotional scaring? McCain says we must be victorious. Isn’t finding common ground between us a victory? Isn’t saving more of our brave soldiers lives a victory? Isn’t regaining the world’s respect a victory?

Obama’s last stop was in Germany with well over 200,000 people cheering him on. They, like the rest of us are ready for a change. The definition of insanity is to continue doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. The time of the ‘John Wayne’ school of diplomacy is over. Shoot now, shoot again, and ask questions later. What we have been doing (which is being the world’s bully in my opinion) hasn’t worked. How about trying something different like sitting down and talking. Wow, what a concept!

Obama, nor anyone else, can change the world or the world view of Americans in a year or two, but if we begin treating others with respect, maybe, just maybe we will gain more respect. If we can agree on the small things, mabe in time we can begin to agree on the big things.

For the record I agree with the General’s comment (I apologize for not remembering his name) that said, and I’m paraphrasing, just being a prisoner of war is not enough to make you a good president. Not to take away from McCain’s service and sacrifice for his country, however that was his choice, and most Americans want the war to stop and begin to take care of our people and our country. We are building up the infrastructure in Iraq as our infrastructure in the US is falling in on us. (Can we say levy’s in New Orleans for example?) McCain is ‘old school’ and Obama is a ‘new school’ picture of a promising tomorrow.

One of the biggest advantages Obama has over McCain (and one that he and his party can’t see) is that Obama is a man of color. Hello, more people in this country and around the world are people of color. What a concept to have someone that looks more like me in the White House making decisions for me.

I challenge all of us to decide what is important to us and vote. You have a voice, use it. It will be a while before we know to what extent Obama’s trip will impact his bid for the White House, but I know without a shadow of a doubt that it can only help.

We as Lightworkers, as citizens of the world, see life from the vantage point of the ‘Big Picture’. The ‘Big Picture’ being we as spiritual being having a human experience have the duty, the obligation to lead the way to an enlightened society. I envision this society has having good healthcare, prosperity, food, education, peace and unity for each and every citizen on this global community. What a concept!

Psalm of Plenty July 16, 2008

As a 30-year Buddhist, my knowledge of the Christian Bible is limited. This is something I’m working on changing. My intention is to read and learn as much as possible about all religions and philosophies. To better understand people, I believe, we need to look at what empowers or fuels their soul. I believe there is wisdom along all paths to Enlightenment, Buddhahood, Nirvana and Heaven, et al.

I came across the following Psalm as I studied “manifestation” as outlined by the Universal Harmony Foundation. I do realize this particular Psalm closely resembles the well known 23 Psalm. The words have been changed specifically for increasing OUR prosperity.  The instructions are to read said Psalm every day for the next 30 days. What do I have to lose? What do you have to lose? What can we ALL gain?  Are you game? Day 1!

Psalm of Plenty

The lord is my Security; I shall not want. He maketh me to dwell in higher Consciousness:

He leadeth me beyond the Thought of Poverty.

He restoreth my faith; He leadeth me in the Path of Prosperity for my own sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the Shadow of Need, I will fear no want; for Thou art with me; Thy law and Thy good they secure me.

Thou preparest an Opportunity before me in the presence of mine inadequacies: Thou anointest my thought with Truth; my Abundance runneth over.

Surely Supply and Increase shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the Plenty of the Law forever.

Evillene is Alive and Well! July 12, 2008

I have lived in the same apartment complex since I first moved to the Tampa Bay area over five years ago. During that time, I have stayed to myself, greeting people with a hello, but doing my best to keep my head down and my business to myself. I like to fly under the radar, ‘don’t start none, won’t be none!’

Several months ago an older woman and her son/grandson moved into the complex. Before she got a parking sticker, she would park in ‘my’ spot. Now I understand that there isn’t any assigned parking spots, but for over 4 1/2 years I had the handicapped spot. There wasn’t anyone else that needed it so, it became an unspoken agreement with the tenants in my area. So, enters the new tenant. After coming home a few times and finding her van in the spot I left a note on her car asking her, politely, not to park there. I had begun my recovery from a blood clot in my leg after surgery. So, any steps saved at that time was a blessing. Anyway, I got no response, but that’s OK, I didn’t expect one.

A few days later, I see her apartment sticker. OK, she lived here. Well, I guess I can’t just claim the spot as my own, I’ll have to share. First come, first served, right? Well, apparently it was on. She’d move her car, as soon as I left and eventually, I would do the same. She’d leave, and I’d move my car to that spot.

After a while I got tired of the game. If having that spot meant that much to her, then she could have it! As pissed as I would get, I would think about my mother and I wouldn’t want anyone talking crazy to my mom. So, I decided to take the high road and just park elsewhere. I had improve health wise, and the game was really feeling childish. Some people just have to be first, so I give!

Now her van has been in the same spot for months. On the rare ocassion I would see ole’ Evillene, she’d rush to her van as if she expected me to say something. Do you remember Evillene from the ‘Wiz’? That was the impression I would get during the rare times I’d see her. I could envision her stomping around and yealling at every flying monkey in sight! Weren’t there  flying monkeys?   What can I say, that was the visual I would get, but I digress. After some time I noticed the van hadn’t moved since ‘forever’. When I didn’t see Evillene I wondered if she were house-bound for long stretches at a time, I understand, she just doesn’t have to go out much. But, wouldn’t you think if she wasn’t going anywhere she would move the car so others may take advantage of the space? Now, you have to understand that where the ‘handicapped’ spot is is not necessary closer to her breezeway. The two spots next to the ‘handicapped’ sport are actually much closer, in proximity to the apartment this woman lives in. Now, I’m noticing there is all kinds of crap in the van. It looks like she is using the damn van as a storage unit, apparently with no intentions of driving it.

Not one for confrontation, I am trying to decide what to do. It’s about the principle of it. To be so selfish as to keep that raggady van in the one of two handicapped spots in our area. So, I decide, I’m going to talk with management on Monday. I was thinking about how I would like to talk with this woman, I would suggest that she move the van over to be considerate.  Yes, you guessed it, I manifested what I was thinking about.  I’m unlocking my car and there she and her son are. ‘Chicken’ I hear myself think, ’say something, seize the moment, approacher her in a loving and non-judgemental way. Right!

“Excuse me, is that your van?” Her answers was “yeah”, put her head down and rush to get into another car. I will be ‘John Brown’. She has another car. I was shocked, she had another car and kept that van there out of spite!?  “Excuse me, if you’re going to use your van as storage would you move it to another spot?” I have NEVER had someone go off on me like she did! “Why don’t you mind your own business?” My response was, “Are you serious?” My mouth fell open. “Lady, I’m just asking you to be considerate of others.” She made a few more snide remarks and mumbled something about how I said management had given me that spot. “I never said management had given me that spot.” (What I mentioned in my note was something like, why not ask management for another handicapped spot in our area.) Now, I understand better. Since I ‘told” her management had given me that spot, she had decided to be sure I didn’t use it. Now is it me, or is that just nasty?

After the second, “Are you serious?” I just stood there looking at her. Now I did feel my ego jump out for a few moments and said, “Lady I’m going to pray for you, have a blessed day you crazy ole’ bitch! Yeah, I know I didn’t need to go there, but I am of flesh and blood.

I will go to the management and discuss this situation. Again, I need to take the high road and handle this as an adult. Damn! But seriously, the hate that spewed out of her was very sad indeed. What made her so hateful? I will hold her in the pink light of universal love. I feel sorry for anyone that miserable.

Evillene has some serious issues and they appear to be more than I can handle, but I sincerely hope that whatever is causing her that kind of pain can someday be healed.

As for me, I will continue to take the high road and remind myself that you don’t fight hate with hate, but with love. Remember only the love is real.

Namaste’

p.s. If I do see her,  I will speak to her kindly, wishing her a great day. No one said I couldn’t ‘kill’ her with kindness. This may be passive/aggressive, but I’m still a work in progress.
